For most of us, a “traditional” Thanksgiving dinner conjures images of giant roasted turkeys and glazed hams.
But history tells a fishier story.
There’s actually no direct evidence that turkey was even on the table when Native Americans and Pilgrims sat down to feast in Plymouth, Massachusetts, back in 1621.
If you think about it, it makes sense! New England’s Atlantic waters teamed with fish, and the coastline was alive with an abundance of shellfish. Undoubtedly, seafood, in general, was the main staple of most meals.
So, if the bounty of the sea makes your mouth water, you likely have more in common with early Thanksgiving diners than you think!
Adding a fish or seafood dish or two (or three) to your Thanksgiving spread is a great way to add fresh new flavors to your meal. And most recipes are light and easy to make — definitely easier than making than a turkey!
